Since 2002, CRDF has supported 36 U.S.-Azerbaijan collaborative research projects valued at about $1.7 million. These programs increase cooperation between the basic and applied research communities of Azerbaijan and the United States and advance the creation of a knowledge-based economy
in Azerbaijan.
New Technology For Medical Monitoring
The U.S.-Azerbaijan collaboration of Dr. Ziraddin Sadygov, Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), and Dr. Edward Tsyganov, University of Texas, Dallas-Southwestern Medical Center led to the discovery of two new types of micro-pixel avalanche photodiodes (MAPD) capable to work under a single photon detection mode.
These new MAPD types have now been developed for commercial applications in radiation monitoring and medical imaging.

Enhanced Oil Recovery Efficiency
The collaboration between Dr. Geilani Panahov, Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS and Dr. Sayavur Bakhtiyarov, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology developed field applications for viscoelastic systems in technological processes of oil and gas recovery operations.
These systems will allow for enhanced oil recovery, better efficiency, and more effective transport and refining processes.
